AI is at it again, and this time, it’s showing people what an ‘Average Day’ in South Africa looks like. They might just be onto us!

South Africa (05 February 2024)—If you’re on the internet often, you’re probably no stranger to the weird (and sometimes wonderful) creations Artificial Intelligence can cook up. From Cape Town’s Avengers to South Africa as a villain, we’ve seen it all. But another recent batch of visuals depicting an ‘Average Day’ in South Africa has us giggling in high notes for its…’accuracy’.

According to the visual story created by ‘AI TRÄSKET’, an ‘average day’ in SA is filled with playing sports, finding treasure and, of course, having an adorable sidekick alongside you for every part of your journey. (No, it’s not a Springbok). We also apparently get very rich, very quickly. There are no shops around us either in the open planes of wildlife we call home, except for one: a Ferrari dealership. Obviously.

The video has sparked many giggles from its 2.1 million views for reasons that need little explanation. But, in true South African humour, many locals played along without hesitation.

Here are some of the comments:

“My Meerkat and I found a diamond yesterday.”—Gary Shell.

“Finally, accurate South African representation!!”—Omfile.

“I’m saving my gold chunk for a rainy day.”—Brandon Wessels.

“Anyone want to exchange meerkats? I think mine is broken?”—Kgopolo Mphuthi on her meerkat not leading her to excessive amounts of gold.

“My elephant is too lazy to carry anything, he spends his day getting drunk on Amarula.”—Isabellé

“Yes this is true. I unfortunately don’t have an elephant cause you need a license but I’ll get one soon,”—@fofo.

“My meerkat doesn’t want to play rugby with me :(“—Nthati.

We’re not sure which South Africans actually identify with this ‘average day’, but if you’re out there, we need to see you and your meerkat urgently.
