Edu-Paw’s very own animal hero Sphiwo Colin Gavu stepped in for the Saturday dog training class so that the children and their dogs wouldn’t miss out.
Amanzimtoti, South Africa (03 November 2023) – Animal hero Sphiwo Colin Gavu recently stepped up to help the Edu-Paw team and he is being honoured for going above and beyond! Sphiwo has been at Edu-Paw for the past eight years, volunteering his time to help in every way.
Edu-Paw runs an eight-week Canine Care Programme that guides 12 children and their beloved dogs through obedience training and helps build strong bonds between the children and pets. These classes are usually run by Precious and Snethemba but neither could get to the Amanzimtoti SPCA recently so Sphiwo stepped in.
The Edu-Paw programmes are run through the Amanzimtoti SPCA. They work with children from surrounding communities. The work being done through the organisation helps children learn compassion for animals and leads entire communities to shift and prevent abuse and neglect of animals.
Sphiwo usually runs the Sidewalk Programme outside the gate, dealing with the children who come through for assistance with their dogs on a Saturday morning. However, it became clear to the team that Sphiwo is also a talented teacher, taking over the structured class with ease!
When each child starts in the Canine Care Programme, their dogs are vaccinated, sterilised if needed and dewormed. They are given a collar, lead, bed, blankets, dog food and all the tools needed to raise and care for a dog.
Every week, the team feeds each of the dogs and gives the children and volunteers a juice and snack. With the help of donors, they are able to continue this incredible community service. You can reach out to Edu-Paw via Facebook to lend a helping hand.
