Funda Nenja has moved to a central part of Mpophomeni, placing them in the heart of the community.
Mpophomeni, South Africa (16 February 2024) – Funda Nenja have shared the exciting news that they have moved where they are based, placing them in the centre of the very community they serve.
Funda Nenja, a dog training initiative, runs in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children and much-needed vaccinations for their beloved dogs.
These lessons teach the dogs some obedience skills but also help the children bond with their pets to form a deeper connection. The classes help educate children about animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals too.
The classes are hosted each week, and as part of the programme, the dogs involved get checked up by the primary veterinary clinic. For any animals not inoculated yet, they get it done right there.
“Funda Nenja is based in the semi-rural township of Mpophomeni in the Kwa-Zulu Midlands, about 15km outside the country town of Howick. The population is a cross section across the socio-economic sector, with a large number of unemployed people depending financially on state grants.
We have moved to new premises at the Mpophomeni Sports Stadium where we have been working from since January. Our One Welfare programmes support the well-being of both people and their dogs (and a few cats too), with our weekly primary veterinary care clinic being the only service of it’s kind in the area. We also hold a free monthly sterilisation clinic at our venue where approximately 20 dogs are sterilised each time.”
This new chapter for the team is filled with promise and hope. You can follow their efforts via Facebook here as well as find out how to support the cause.
