The 2023 roll call is out and the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Award winners are in! From business leaders to creatives and STEM powerhouses, these are the women inspiring South Africa:

 

Johannesburg, South Africa (29 November 2023) — The intersection between inspiring entrepreneurs, sportspeople, creatives, humanitarians beauty and power shares one bold word: women. The GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards then, are one of the biggest celebrations of women to know and be inspired by, and the 2023 cohort has just been ushered in.

Several accolades under the Game-Changers edition of the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards were crowned in Johannesburg recently. In a glittering display, movers and shakers, thinkers and doers from all walks of life were honoured for their contributions to South Africa’s empowerment.

Meet the 2023 GLAMOUR Women of the Year

Next-Gen Award: Zesipho Mncwango is the Next-Gen Award winner, which she won for her clever digital content creation as ‘The Official Perfume Plug’; a fragrance platform that’s become a fragrant force to be reckoned with. The brand manager and entrepreneur is described as having a unique vision that allowed her to tap into this market in a way no one else in the country has.

Sportsperson Game Changer Award: Won by Bongiwe Msomi the National Netball team caption, this award honours her status as an iconic leader. Bongiwe was responsible for raising the profile of netball in South Africa and around the world, and was behind the Proteas strongest World Cup efforts in 2019.

Entertainer Game Changer Award: Nomuzi Mabena (Moozlie) has been honoured with the Entertainer Game Changer Award for the many hats she has worn in the entertainment industry. From modelling to rapping and presenting, she has navigated her way successfully through some of the most difficult career paths. She is further admired for her determination to pave the way forward for women and children of Benoni, where her career began.

Musician Game Changer Award: Zoë Modiga’s shine, spark and originality as a musician has earned her the Musician Game Changer Award. As a Johannesburg National School of Arts’ and UCT alumni, she has gone on to dazzle alongside some of South Africa’s biggest groups and artists like Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Johhny Clegg, loved for her authentic African artistry.

Humanitarian Game Changer Award: Change SA’s Catherine Constantinides is the winner of the Humanitarian Game Changer Award. This for her advocacy on multiple fronts, including climate change, education and women empowerment.

Editor’s Award: Simphiwe Dana is the recipient of the Editor’s Award for her role as a creative and social activist. Appreciated for her vulnerable storytelling through music, the SAMA Best Female Artist awardee has had an inspiring career that’s positioned her as a beacon of healing.

Fashion Game Changer Award: Fikile Sokhulu is this year’s Fashion Game Changer for her fierce and feminine designs that have captured the continent and the world. As a designer part of the Fashion Bridges Project, Fikile captured Milan Fashion Week. However, beyond her incredible creativity, her Masters in Business and Brand Management has also led to her brand’s growing success.

Beauty Game Changer Award: Digital creator Mihlali Ndamase won the Beauty Game Changer Award for her incredible dominance in the beauty industry as both an artist and businesswoman. From accessible makeup tutorials to becoming one of Forbes Africa’s ’30 under 30′ names, her name is one to know and learn from in the beauty world.

Sustainability Award: Standard Beauty’s Ann-Kathrin Joos is this year’s Sustainability Award star. Her brand not only made skincare more sustainable, but accessible to women across the country. In a short space of time (the brand began during the pandemic) she has gone on to have her brand flourish and become an industry favourite when it comes to conscious beauty.

Technology Game Changer Award: Veni Reddy, the Managing Director of MSV Instrumentation and Supplies, is a name to know in the world of STEM, which is partly what earned her this year’s Technology Game Changer Award. The other part is due to her barrier-breaking status as a determined woman who fought hard for this position and believes that the industry has misrepresented women for too long.

Entrepreneur Game Changer Award: Cindy Malaza won the Entrepreneur Game Changer Award not least for her tenacity and innovation. Funding a career as a commercial pilot turned to founding her own company, and today Timeless Opulence continues to take up successful spaces in interior design, bespoke furniture and events management.

Finance Game Changer Award: Beyond Irene Charnley’s incredible story that’s taken her from the Cape Flats to the executive director of MTN, she is also a pinnacle of pioneering women in industries that said no to many women. The Finance Game Changer winner has been commended for her community activism as a negotiator for the National Union of Mineworkers, and is one of the founders behind the National Empowerment Consortium which made more opportunities possible for marginalised people.
