Prince William’s Earthshot 2024 will be held in Cape Town this year; a week where environmentalists from all over the will world unite through eco-solutions to our planet’s most pressing challenges!

Cape Town, South Africa (12 February 2024) — The City of Cape Town is set to add another international hosting moment to its calendar this year—Earthshot 2024!

Both Earthshot Week and the Awards Ceremony will unfold in the Mother City; making this the first time the global event will take place in South Africa.

Founded by Prince William in 2020, the Earthshot Prize is the biggest opportunity for innovative environmental enthusiasts to share their solutions to the Earth’s most pressing problems. Each year, it focuses on 5 key Earthshots:

  • Protect and restore nature
  • Clean our air
  • Revive our oceans
  • Build a waste-free world
  • Fix our climate

The occasion will stretch out over five days of landmark events whilst celebrating 15 years of efforts for the Earth. As for the Earthshot Prize, finalists will be narrowed down in the months leading up to the event before just 15 finalists are chosen. 5 will win the £1 million (R23 800 000 00) award.

In exciting news for the continent, nearly 400 nominees for 2024 have been revealed to be African-based. Last year, Cape Town also had a finalist in the mix after ABALOBI, an NPO partnership between fishers and scientists who developed a very clever app in light of fishing transparency.

15 finalists are set to be identified from all over the world, with 5 earning the £1 million (R23 800 000,00) prize to effect their solutions. And, it’s all going down on home soil this November!
