Two powerhouses in social impact and environmental action are teaming up for a collaboration so epic, if it were a song we’re sure it would win a Grammy. In showing school kids just how impactful recycling can be, the ‘Bread Tags For Wheelchair Challenge’ is ready to wheel and deal tons of hope throughout South Africa.

South Africa (04 February 2024) — The hunt for bread tags is on as part of a big initiative between The Sweethearts Foundation and WESSA’s (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) Eco-Schools. This year, the ‘Bread Tags For Wheelchair Challenge’ will see hundreds of registered schools across the country unite in impact as students collect bread tags as tokens of positive change.

We’ve seen how wonderfully possible it is for items as tiny and simple as bread tags (and bottle tops) to wheel tangible change into the lives who most need it. Now, the chance for change is expanding and more importantly, focusing on those who will carry these lessons of paying it forward into South Africa’s future—our school kids!

The dream for The Sweethearts Foundation—AKA the wheelchair foundation, which has handed over 498 wheelchairs to beneficiaries through recycling tops and tags—is for students at the participating schools to organise as many bread tags as possible and see how impactful recycling can really be.

“It’s not just about mobility; it’s a whole new spin on making the world a better place!”—The Sweethearts Foundation.

Not only will this wheel a ton of hope into communities that most need it, but it’ll also show South Africans from grade 1 to retirement what is possible when enough people put in a little effort.

The Bread Tags for Wheelchair Challenge will see the school that collects the most tags get their own picnic bench and the priceless gift of knowing they’ve changed lives.
