Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” has surged to #1 on US iTunes charts following a captivating GRAMMY performance with Luke Combs, reigniting its relevance nearly 36 years after its release.

Global (05 February 2024) – In a night filled with glitz, glamour, and remarkable musical talent, the 66th GRAMMY Awards delivered a standout moment that has reverberated far beyond the confines of the Staples Center.

Host Trevor Noah shepherded the evening through Los Angeles rain, late arrivals, and a flurry of stunning moments, making it one of the most memorable awards shows of the year.

Among the highlights was an unforgettable performance by Tracy Chapman, whose iconic hit “Fast Car” soared to the top of the iTunes charts, nearly 36 years after its release.

The 59-year-old Chapman, who has maintained a low profile in recent years, made a surprise guest appearance at the prestigious event, much to the delight of fans worldwide. Her performance, a stirring duet with the immensely talented Luke Combs, left the entire audience on their feet and ignited a frenzy on social media. Combs, known for his heartfelt renditions of the song during his tours, shared the stage with Chapman in a moment that will undoubtedly be remembered in music history.

South Africans, in particular, have long held a deep appreciation for Tracy Chapman’s music. Her powerful lyrics, soulful voice, and unwavering commitment to addressing social issues resonate deeply with audiences across the globe. In South Africa, where social challenges persist, Chapman’s music holds a special significance. Themes of social justice, equality, and personal struggle permeate her work, striking a chord with a nation familiar with adversity and resilience.

As “Fast Car” climbs to the top of the charts once again, its timeless message continues to inspire and uplift listeners around the world.

Her self-titled album, released in 1988, is on repeat in the Good Things Guy office today.
