South Africa’s Hero in My Hood has had an exciting project, translating their Lucky Animal Welfare colouring book into Spanish for children in Mexico.
South Africa (30 January 2024) – Hero in My Hood is celebrating an exciting milestone, having one of their publications translated into Spanish and distributed to children in Mexico. The popular character Lucky, who helps children learn how to take care of their pets, is now set to help children in Mexico, too.
Hero in My Hood collaborated with Vidas Dignas in Mexico to adapt and translate Lucky’s colouring book into Spanish.
Hero in My Hood was founded to help teach lessons while keeping things fun. For children as young as six, the best way to learn valuable lessons is through fun, engaging and educational activities.
The organisation creates the fun activity pages for children aged 6 to 12 years. Characters Jongi, Thandi and their friends are illustrated in activity form on heroic adventures to learn important life lessons. Hero in My Hood was founded in 2016 by Mandy Lomberg and Kate Boyes.
Some of the lessons shared include good hygiene and handwashing, understanding gender-based violence, animal care and welfare, and general life lessons.
Each activity sheet is dedicated to social issues, and by handing the sheets out, they help raise awareness for issues that affect those areas.
The organisation welcomes commissioned works and suggestions for titles, like the Spanish edition, and social issues. Parents, educators and other facilitators can access fun, free downloads here. You can also shop for full activity books and educational posters here.
