After Simba the pastry chef shared disappointing news, Cape Town foodies united to uplift him in the most heartwarming ways:

Cape Town, South Africa (13 February 2024) — After Simba, the pastry chef, was open about the challenges he faced in selling stock at a market in Cape Town over the weekend, the support that enveloped him was nothing short of a sweet surprise.

The pastry chef based in Claremont took to the Cape Town Eats Group—A community Facebook Group that unites foodies from every corner of the Mother City—where he shared his plight.

The Under the Trees Market had proved to be a tough day for a pastry chef at a market according to Simba, and he sadly went home with a lot of stock.

“I got home from the market and just slept,” he added of the disappointment, before indicating that he will need to think of a way forward for the year ahead.

Running a small business is by no means a smooth experience, especially when you’re dealing with the hours that go into something like perfecting pastries.

But, Simba had been open with the right people, who made sure that he did not feel disheartened for long.

Cape Town Eats Group community members shared incredible empathy for Simba’s situation; giving the treats a run for their sweetness.

People offered to come by and purchase treats. Others shared advice and suggestions for spots that might need his baking skills. Fans of his baking showered Simba with words of encouragement. Loads of love and advice poured in like batter—enough to make even those who don’t have a sweet tooth smile.

Commenting on the foodies uniting to uplift the pastry chef, Thandi Sher said:

“It’s so beautiful seeing everyone come together to try uplift Simba. There’s so much doom and gloom lately that this is just the positivity we need to put out there. You guys are so amazing.”

Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to share your challenges. It might just be the bridge to your big break!

Meanwhile, anyone else who wants to support Simba can find his page here.
