The new, exciting Lead Like a Girl Programme is set to nurture formidable female leaders by giving 15 young women the opportunity of a lifetime:

Durban, South Africa (14 February 2024) — The Beast Foundation (the brainchild of South African-Zimbabwean professional rugby player Tendai Mtawarira) in collaboration with other dream-drivers has just announced the launch of the Lead Like a Girl Programme; set to be the opportunity of a lifetime for women just waiting to unlock their empowerment.

15 young women have been selected from both South Africa (Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal) as well as Harare and Bulawayo in Zimbabwe based on their sporting, academic and cultural achievements and financial needs.

Now, they have the opportunity to be leaders-in-the-making as part of the programme designed to nurture their development, including schooling support (tuition, boarding fees, textbooks and other learning materials), annual leadership camps, inter-African country visits, ongoing mentorships and a dedicated alumni community.

Lead Like a Girl was made possible thanks to collective partnerships with the Amathuba Foundation, The Imbeleko Foundation Higherlife Foundation, Zimbabwe and others. The programme runs in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals with special emphasis on Goals 4 and 5: Quality Education and Gender Equality.

Considering the urgent need for accelerated progress toward these goals (as indicated by the UN Women Annual Report), Lead Like a Girl hopes that these 15 lives were inspire many more to break poverty cycles.

“Lead Like a Girl represents a collective effort to uplift young women and foster positive change in underserved communities across Africa,” explains The Beast Foundation’s Chairman, Tendai Mtawarira.

“Through mentorship, scholarships, the influence of inspiring female patrons, and the establishment of a robust alumni network, our goal with Lead Like a Girl is clear: to provide unwavering support, comprehensive training, and quality education to young girls. We aim to nurture the next generation of young girls as they forge their own unique paths.”

Tendai concludes:

“With Lead Like a Girl, we’re not just envisioning a brighter future; we’re actively shaping it. Together, with the support of our partners and the dediction of our team, we’re laying the foundation for a generation of empowered and resilient young women who will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the world.”
