Charity Begins with Me recently handed out warming winter beanies and it turns out, the donations arrived just in time for the cold weather!
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 July 2023) – It really did get far too cold over the last few days and while many rejoiced in the beauty of the snowfall, South Africans are not generally equipped to deal with this level of cold. Thankfully, the Rotary Club of Rosebank played a pivotal role in keeping children warm during the recent cold spell in Gauteng by donating beanies and sweaters.
Charity Begins with Me was able to hand out donated beanies and knitted sweaters over the weekend which really came in handy over the last few days. These warm-knitted goods added that extra layer of love!
Stephen Ferriera, who founded the charity, took time to thank all the people that helped make the donation possible.
“The Rotary Club of Rosebank, Henriette Viljoen and the Hekel and Terapie team blessed us with the most beautiful beanies and sweaters for the kids. Hundreds and hundreds of items handed out on Saturday. Thank you Sonja, Jean, Anne, Sybille, and everyone else for making this possible. You are our heroes!!”
Stephen Ferriera started ‘Charity Begins With Me‘ shortly after he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. He realised he could do so much more with the life he had left and quickly set up the charity as a way to give back. He ran the charity throughout his chemotherapy treatments, remission and, sadly, his relapse. Whatever battles he faces in his own life, it is those of others that give him the strength to push through.
Working with the local community has become a huge part of Stephen’s life and making sure everyone has equal opportunity, even more so. Times are tough and he is seeing it first-hand, on the ground.
