The current weather is a sobering reality that winter is coming – not yet but soon – so Stephen Ferreira has started collecting jackets, jerseys and other winter clothing to keep children warm.

Johannesburg, South Africa (14 February 2023) – The rainy weather is an early reminder that winter is getting closer every day. It also means we can start working through our wardrobes to clear out any unwanted scarves, jackets, jerseys and other warm clothing. What we can do with them, is donate them to worthy causes.

“Charity Begins with Me” has started collecting winter items in preparation for the coming winter. Stephen Ferreira is hoping to collect 1500 warm items. They need to be various children’s sizes as well as adult sizes for the older children.

Stephen started ‘Charity Begins With Me‘ shortly after he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. He realised he could do so much more with the life he had left and quickly set up the charity as a way to give back. He ran the charity throughout his chemotherapy treatments, remission and, sadly, his relapse. Whatever battles he faces in his own life, it is those of others that give him the strength to push through.

Working with the local community has become a huge part of Stephen’s life and making sure the children are catered for, is his top priority. Keeping them warm is important and we can all help them by sending in warm clothing.

“Winter is fast approaching and I want to make sure all my children have something warm to wear. Many children living in informal settlements walk around with old, worn out clothing.

My goal is to collect 1500 jerseys, jackets, long sleeve tops, or even long sleeve pj’s.

(Other clothing items also welcome.)”

The collection drive will run until the 31st of March 2023.
