The Egg Challenge... turned on its head! #EggChallenge #SPARdonate

Right now, there are millions of South Africans who are going to bed hungry, but we have the ability to help them. This is how we turn the egg challenge on its head!

Johannesburg, South Africa (15 April 2020) – The Egg Challenge has been doing the rounds on social media during the lockdown but Brent Lindeque has turned the concept on its head… and managed to inspire South Africans to donate over 10 000 food packs and raise over R1,1 million to help feed South Africa in just 48 hours!

It entails that a person swallows a raw egg, followed by a mouthful of sugar and then ending it off with a shot of brandy or rum. The person then goes on to challenge a friend to do the same.

The challenge is very similar to the NekNominations that were all the rage six years ago. The NekNominations back then, also had people drinking alcohol in crazy ways and nominating friends to do the same. It all changed when Brent Lindeque, the founder of Good Things Guy, gave a homeless man a meal instead and nominated friends to do the same.

Brent inspired a global movement, and it was that movement that inspired him to start sharing more good news every day. That is how Good Things Guy was born.

Watch the video below to see how he is flipping the Egg Challenge on its head:

Fast forward to 2020, and we’re doing it again… only this time the SPAR group has come on board to help feed the nation!

“Right now, there are millions of South Africans who are going to bed hungry, but we have the ability to help them.”

“One of the biggest retailers in the country – the SPAR group – have come on board to assist me with my nomination by placing a shopping cart outside of every SPAR store for you to use your #EggChallenge to instead do a #SPARdonate by donating a six-pack of eggs, 1 kilogram of maize and 1 litre of milk to the most vulnerable of South Africans.”

Not only are SPAR putting shopping carts outside their stores where you can donate, but they will also donate R1 for every #SPARdonate to the SPAR Lodestar foundation feeding scheme!!!

Together, Good Things Guy and SPAR have launched a Backabuddy fund for anyone who would like to donate funds to help feed South Africa and together with the SPAR family have raised over R1,1 million in just 48 hours to help feed South Africa!

This is how we change the world… together.

“Wishing you only good things, and no more raw eggs!”

  1. How is Spar donating???? Customers are buying the goods and donating them. All Spar is doing is making more profit unless they have reduced the items mentioned and are selling them at cost ?
I doubt it but we can only hope! Milk at cost? Not a chance!

    1. I brought SPAR on board because they have the network of stores around the country to act as drop-off points. Added to this, they have taken all the logistics on-board to deliver the donations to communities around the country. This is not an easy task and I am really thankful that they have agreed to assist.
