Kayden Mulder, who attends the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, has been named the head boy for 2024; he is there today thanks to the kindness of others.

Drakensberg, South Africa (08 January 2024) – The Drakensberg Boys Choir have named their Head Boy for 2024 and it’s Kayden Mulder, who was featured on Good Things Guy several years ago when his mom crowdfunded to have Kayden stay in the school.

Kayden Mulder was scouted to audition for Drakensberg Boys in 2018. He successfully auditioned and was enrolled in grade 4 for the 2019 year. During the first two years of his life at the school, he blossomed, but sadly he lost his father, and his mom was unable to cover his school fees on her salary alone by 2022. The crowdfunding, however, was a success, and Kayden has been able to continue attending the school over the past two years.

He has been a great fit at the school and a huge source of inspiration. So much so, he was selected at the head boy for this academic year.

Kayden wrote a message to thank everyone for their support on his journey and to share his vision for the year ahead. He explained that sometimes we can have tough times, but that they make us stronger and better.

“Hi everyone.

My name is Kayden Mulder, Head Boy of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School for 2024. I was honoured to be selected as Head Boy and really look forward to being a leader of the school this year.

2024 will be my sixth year at Drakies. When I joined the school as a new boy at the beginning of 2019, I faced many challenges and difficulties, especially in my first year, as I adapted to my new environment at school and to being away from home. However, I truly believe it is the tough times that make you stronger and a better person. They shape us into who we are today and that is what matters. As a new boy, one of my favourite memories was getting my Concert Status because it is something that you have to work hard for. Once you achieve it, you know that you are going to grow and become better in the choir.

My vision for this year is to inspire and motivate our school to do the best at everything we do and, as our Headmaster always says, to do it with good attitude. I aim to exceed expectations in the goals we set ourselves based on what our school needs, and to help develop the new choristers with a view to making our choir an even better one.

To conclude, I would like to say that it is both a pleasure and a privilege to have been chosen to lead our school and I would like to thank everyone for the love and support they have shown me.” – Kayden Mulder

The school helps nurture musical talent and working together and since so many people reached out to help Kayden, it is clear that working together as a greater community helps nurture the leaders we need. Congratulations on your inspiring new position Kayden. We cannot wait to see what comes next!
