Suzelle DIY

YouTube star and South African comedy sensation SuzelleDIY has a brand new DIY project – taking local comedy to the whole of Africa via her series, SuzelleDIY, on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122).

SuzelleDIY comedy “shorts” will air on Comedy Central every Monday to Friday from Monday 2 May at 20:05 CAT, with marathons on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 May.

The creation of South African comedian Julia Anastasopoulos and director Ari Kruger, SuzelleDIY, began life as a bite-sized DIY web series.

The eponymous heroine, Suzelle, a 30-something known for her chic “up do”, retro fashion sense, and sweet but dim onscreen persona, has become an internet celebrity thanks to her bizarre but strangely effective DIY projects.

Despite an unsatisfying social life, an upbeat “can do” attitude keeps Suzelle smiling in the face of many challenges, as indicated in her signature catchphrase, “Because anybody can”.

Among the bizarre DIY tips Suzelle has shared with her fans are How to Iron without an Iron, How to Make a Braai Pie, “How to Make a Christmas Tree, How to Get Fluff Off Your Jersey, and How to Make a Loadshedding Survival Kit.

Making its online debut in 2014, SuzelleDIY has won a loyal following thanks to its combination of surreal humour, detailed character observation and strong scripts. Online the series has garnered over 12 million views.

In 2014, Suzelle herself received an award for South Africa’s favourite online celebrity from Channel24, and subsequently came top in the “Superbalist 100”, the definitive list of young “doers, makers, movers and shakers” responsible for shaping the face of contemporary youth culture in South Africa.

Gushed Suzelle, “I’m so excited that my YouTube videos is going to be on TV now for everybody to watch on their couches!”
