The Hillcrest-based Grace Factory is hosting its first-ever knitathon and needs help collecting wool (and knitters) for the big day.
Hillcrest, South Africa (21 February 2024) – The KwaZulu-Natal-based Grace Factory is hosting its first-ever ‘knitathon’ where knitters will make up adorable baby sets that will be added to the bags sent to mothers in state hospitals. The team are busy collecting wool, so that knitters can keep busy on the day.
“We are hosting a Knitathon, and we are collecting wool. This will all go towards making baby beanies, booties, jerseys, and blankets for vulnerable mothers and their babies.”
The Grace Factory recently set up operations in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal to spread care and love to the new mothers in the area. The organisation has several locations throughout South Africa, but this is a first for KZN. The newly founded branch recently hosted its first packing day and it was a massive success!
The Grace Factory, an NPO that gives practical assistance to moms and babies in need during the first few weeks of motherhood and infancy, stresses the importance of doing so. The organisation packs the items into gift sets and delivers them to new moms in government hospitals all over South Africa. The packs consist of basic necessities such as clothes, blankets, toiletries, nappies and a few things for mom.
For those wanting to donate wool or get involved with the Knitathon, you can touch base with Sarah via email here and she will be able to provide more details regarding the exciting project. You can also find details for collection points here.
It will be taking place as soon as they can get donations and knitters ready. So stay tuned!
