A mother of 5 is making culinary waves in a small South African town best known for Wimpy and Nando’s. This is Dom’s with Love!

Entering Dom Molete’s café in the sleepy town of Harrismith, the motivational quotes covering the white walls of the small café built around a big personality, are the first sign that this is not a run of the mill restaurant.

There is nothing copy and paste about the warm smile and genuine hug that welcomes you at Dom’s Place.

This is clearly a café built to please the guests as much as the larger than life proprieter present, to ensure every aspect of your visit is enjoyable and memorable.

The delicious craft menu is simple yet surprisingly varied and ranges from home-made quiches and fresh home grown salads to Beef wraps, hearty steaks and even fully banting breakfasts. This carefully constructed and artisinal home styled menu includes a custom coffee blend made by Highlands Roastary in Clarens, and would be right at home in Cape Town’s Camp’s Bay yet is being served daily in Harrismith.

Yes, you heard right! Harrisimith.

The driving force behind this gem of a cafe is Dom Molete, who dreamed of owning her own place since the age of 6.

30 years later and that dream has come true as Dom’s Place opened it’s doors a year ago, in a small shopping centre 2 minutes off the N3 between Jhb and Durban on Hamilton Street.

Using fresh local ingredients she is a passionate advocate for personal touches and this is evident through all aspects of a visit to this charming spot. A self taught chef, Dom uses her vibrant personality to inject a vital ingredient to her offering for tired travelers, love.

“My religion is love”, she laughs as she explains how her journey to opening her own cafe took her from Cape Town and Johannesburg to the Transkei before settling in Harrismith.

A self-proclaimed “small-town” girl she loves the attention to detail the slower pace of small town living affords her and the local community have welcomed her with open arms.

It takes no more than a moments thought to bypass the usual franchised fare at the petrol stops and adventure into Dom’s unique culinary world of personal attention, passion, and plenty of pride.

Next time you hit Harrismith, bypass the burgers and drop by Dom’s.

It’s a culinary and social experience that makes you remember how good it feels… to feel good.

  1. I love this place, it is the best place to stop from Johannesburg to Durban in Harrismith. I felt so much love and the food is amazing.
