South Africans love a good December holiday, but this year, we are all watching our budgets again! This is what it may cost to travel on some of SA’s most popular toll routes.
South Africa (28 November 2023) – As we start getting ready for the annual holiday season, we know that the budget is on everyone’s mind. Fuel costs are incredibly high but the price of flights during peak season is even more so. This means many families will be choosing to drive to their holiday destinations.
Before packing up the kids, the dogs and your darling partner – check your route. If you are travelling on toll roads, we have a breakdown of what it might cost you, just so you can add that to the budget.
This post will form part of a series over the coming month, to promote road safety. South African roads can be dangerous but even more so as “silly season” kicks off. While making your plans, please be sure to drive carefully at all times. You can check our road safety guide here.
Have you worked the cost of the tolls into your holiday budget? If not we have done a bit of the work for you by helping you see how much you might have to pay along the way.
All tolls are worked out for a standard vehicle and are all based on Johannesburg, as that region has the highest density of toll roads. Remember that travelling back will also incur toll fees. If you are travelling by bus, however, the bus service covers the costs of tolls on your behalf.
If you would like to check our maths or you can’t find information about the tolls on your route, check out the website here.
