Funda Nenja has had an increase in pet owners arriving at community days with cats, looking to get them vaccinated and spayed.

Mpophmeni, South Africa (26 February 2024) – Funda Nenja has been sharing more cat-related content despite being an organisation that focuses on dog welfare. Many of the residents of Mpophmeni have been taking in cats and kittens (it is the season).

The organisation recently moved premises, placing them in the centre of the very community they serve, using the sports stadium to remain central. The initiative runs in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children and much-needed vaccinations for their beloved dogs.

These lessons teach the dogs some obedience skills but also help the children bond with their pets to form a deeper connection. The classes help educate children about animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals too.

Aside from working with the children and their dogs, they assist the greater community during a weekly primary veterinary care clinic and a monthly sterilisation clinic which operates on 20 dogs. These services are the only veterinary access this community gets.

As kitten season is in full swing, the team have seen a rise in families bringing their cats to be looked at.

The cats were assisted, and the family was provided with the essentials needed. Word got around the community and before long, another cat owner arrived with his Kitty.

Funda Nenja has slowly inspired more and more responsible pet ownership thanks to their unwavering support of the community. While we are sure there won’t be any cats wanting training, they likely adore the extra attention and nibbles coming their way.
